Alpiq holds ground-breaking ceremony for a wind park in Bulgaria

The Alpiq subsidiary Vetrocom Ltd. today celebrated the official ground-breaking ceremony for the Vetrocom Wind Park in Bulgaria. Participants in the ceremony, which took place near the town of Kazanlak some 200 kilometres to the east of the capital city of Sofia, included representatives from Alpiq, the local authorities and suppliers. On the site at Buzludja, Vetrocom is constructing 20 wind turbines with a total capacity of 50 megawatts.

On 7 May in the Bulgarian town of Kazanlak, the starting signal was given for the construction of a 50 MW wind park. The list of guests included key suppliers and several renowned public officials, among them Stefan Damyanov, Mayor of Kazanlak. The guests were welcomed on Alpiq's behalf by Reinhold Frank, Member of the Executive Board of Alpiq, and Allan Walmsley, Head of Alpiq Power Generation Central Europe. After the speeches, the official guests used shovels to symbolically break the first ground.

 

Commissioning planned for the end of 2010

Vetrocom will invest around EUR 80 million in the project over the next two years. The 20 wind turbines from the German manufacturer Fuhrländer will first feed electricity into the network at the end of 2010. For this investment, in February this year Vetrocom was awarded the First-class Investor Certificate – the highest investor rank in Bulgaria.
