San Severo thermal power station

Through its affiliate EnPlus, Alpiq has built a gas-fired, combined cycle power station in San Severo (province of Foggia, Italy) with an electrical capacity of 400 megawatts and a thermal capacity of around 700 megawatts. Alpiq has a 60 percent stake in EnPlus together with the Avelar Energy Group (30 percent) and En&En (10 percent). The plant has been in service since February 2011.
In addition to the power station, a 22 kilometre gas supply pipeline and a 5.5 kilometre 380 kilovolt high-voltage transmission line have been constructed. Gas-fired combined cycle power stations, also known as gas and steam plants, are characterised primarily by their good flexibility, their rapid availability as well as their high efficiency. The San Severo power station achieves an efficiency of 55 percent.
The plant in San Severo is a turnkey system delivered by the Italian company Ansaldo Energia. Ansaldo Energia also constructed Alpiq's Bayet power station in France that went into service this year.
